Feed Your Faith, Starve Your Fear

I remember when I first heard the Cherokee Indian legend about the two wolves. What a simple, yet impactful way to teach children that it is within their power to choose any outcome they desire.

In case you don’t know it or wish to refresh your memory, I’m including it below. Otherwise, skip to the next paragraph.

An old Cherokee decides to teach his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight between two wolves. One is evil—he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good—he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you and every other person too.”

The grandson thought about it for a while and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

There is beauty in simplicity.

How do you feed your faith and starve your fear? Your attention.

Just as in the Cherokee legend, wherever you focus your attention is what magnifies. It’s what you feed. Thoughts are energy. Where you direct your energy is where you place your intention. Picture your attention as a stream of life force enhancing everything that falls under your consideration.

Focusing more on your faith rather than your fear becomes a way of being. It requires effort and daily practice to turn into a habit. It is the foundation for magnetizing all you desire into your life. That is contrary to what we’ve been taught. We grew up hearing “I’ll believe it when I see it.” In fact, the opposite is true. Belief creates evidence. When we embrace this principle and act from a place of unconditional love, the Universe goes out of its way to shower us with blessings and abundance.

I had a marvelous experience recently that demonstrates that very concept. On Friday, I lost the aquamarine to the ring my mother gave me when I was twelve. (Yes, I still wear the same ring size.) Therein lies its value. I was beside myself. I tried to find it, but it was too dark. I turned it over to my angels, adding: Nothing is impossible for God. (My preference, but you can delegate to the Universal Manager, All-That-Is, or whoever the Higher Power is for you.)

Sunday came around, and the stone still had not turned up. However, I never gave in to doubt. Whenever I remembered the missing stone, I immediately thought, I know it will appear. On Sunday night, I decided to continue writing my book on manifesting. I decided to change the title and began brainstorming for a new one.

No sooner had I chosen one and written the introduction, when my husband called me to the library. The door wouldn’t close. He gently tried to close the door, but stopped when we heard a grinding sound. I bent down to check what was there; out popped my aquamarine. Gratitude were the first words I uttered. What synchronicity! What an incredible display of encouragement and support! Feeling blessed and ecstatic, I quickly glanced at the clock. It was 1:08AM—another beautiful angelic message!

Who would have thought that the stone loosened at the end of the day, slipping under the door when I eagerly sought a respite? What an unlikely place to find it, especially after all the manual tasks I had performed! Now that is another message. Miracles happen every day!

Not long ago, I was given the following advice by Mary Morrissey which I am passing on to you. “Whenever you find yourself building dreams in the presence of fear, turn and reach for a higher thought. Every time you think, what if it doesn’t work, say if that happens, God and I will deal with it. Instead, begin to entertain thoughts that all will work out. You are more than your fear. Push your fear to the edge of your awareness.”

You never have to concern yourself about how things will evolve. You are solely responsible for believing, trusting, and taking action towards your goals. The Universe takes care of the rest as long as you maintain your vibration at a higher frequency. If you find yourself undergoing a particularly difficult period, the Universe is asking: How badly do you desire it? Consider: how would it feel? Then stay in that place of gratitude and appreciation.

What are you wishing to be, do, or have?

Which wolf are you feeding?
